Smoke in the Air

There are several fires burning just north of Denali, and with winds from the southwest, the Tanana Valley is filled with dense smoke. This has prompted an air quality advisory and does indeed make breathing relatively difficult. Currently the visibility at the house is no more than about 1/2 a mile. The photograph above shows the view of my driveway from the house.

Yesterday was the worse yet, so I didn't get a lot accomplished. I ran into town to pick up some materials for a couple of projects and some groceries, and of course did my routine kennel chores, a couple of loads of laundry and a bit of house keeping, but that was about the extent of yesterday's efforts. From the looks of things, today will be similar until the smoke starts clearing out.

The Girls are Doing Well

Capella and Cassie act as though they have fully recovered from their spays on Friday. They are both back out in the kennel with the rest of team. Cassiopeia is in one of the free-run pens with Just, a smallish lead dog who is maybe 6 years old or so. She and Just have been keeping each other plenty busy. Capella is on one of the tethers, interacting with geriatric Daisy and one of the Hedlund husky twins, Rose. I'm really glad to have them back out with the others. They were very noisy in the house, and really did not like being confined so closely.
