Dorothy was Right

Dorothy was right, there really IS no place home.  I got home about 7:30 last night, and Allen Moore and Aliy Zirkle were hard at work on the new handler's cabin.  They are truly down to the smallest of finishing details - some flooring to install, a blue-foam seat for the outhouse, and other little "this and that" things.  Once it's finished and the basic appliances put into place I'll shoot some new photos to share.

Today I brought the dogs home from my buddy Mike's place.  They were SO exciting to see me, and SO excited to be home.  Once they had settled a little bit I took the little car to town to shop for appliances for the cabin.  The big items were a refrigerator, a combination water cooler/heater (it isn't plumbed for domestic water, so the "office" type cooler will be more convenient that a jug on the counter) and a two burner propane stove.  Hey, it IS just a handler's cabin, after all.  It's a small cabin, so it calls for small appliances.  The fridge is about 4 1/2 cubic feet, and will tuck underneath the "kitchen" counter very nicely.  It's a very basic little place, but it's a nice basic place in a truly Alaskan sort of way.

By the time I got home from town my butt was dragging.  This long tour at work took more out of me than I had realized.  I fed the dogs, fed the primate (me), and now I'm fixing to call it an early night.  I'm sure I'll think of a million things I absolutely have to do tomorrow, but I'll wait until tomorrow to start thinking about them.

  1. G'day Swanny - love the sound of the new handler's cabin. I thought if someone had a microwave or fan forced oven, either could sit on the counter etc and really they could cook anything. How nice for someone to move into a brand new kitted out place. Don't work to hard on your week off :-) Terry

  2. Just looked at the pics of the cabin in progress. Glad you are home and the cabin is about ready for the newlyweds that will live there. Virginia to Alaska--may be interesting for them.
